COMMUNITY BASED TOURISM WORKSHOP AND TRAINING

COMMUNITY IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS:
Penetrating International Market through Standard Improvement
of Community Based Tourism Product
Candirejo Village, Borobudur, 26-28 November 2008



 

This workshop is a continuation from previous meeting in March 2008 in Bali, which was supported by ‘Communities in International Business’ from Uni Eropa – Asia Invest programme dan ECEAT. It aimed to enlarge network, all at once to pack tourism product at community level in order to penetrate international market.

Candirejo village was intentionally picked as workshop location, not only intended to give direct profit to community from an activity, but also made it as learning to Indecon’s network, as Candirejo is one sample of successful developed tourism villages and community based tourism through active participation from its community.

This meeting discussed the application of Community Based Tourism principle, criteria and indicator in product development and Community Based Tourism package in Indonesia. Other activity was presentation from the network and their experiences on compiling community based tourism products in their each region, which were :
- Candirejo, Central Java (Candirejo Ecotourism)
- West Java (West Java Ecotourism Forum)
- South Sulawesi (Celebes Ecotourism Forum)
- Pangandaran, West Java (Local Working Group Pangandaran)
- Tangkoko DuaSudara, North Sulawesi (Kelompok Pemandu Wisata Alam Tangkoko)
- Sawai,Central Maluku (Likes Tour)
- Halmahera, North Maluku (Equator Tours)
- Warebo, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (Waerebo Flores Ecotourism)
- Ngada, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (Bajawa Flores Tourism Board)
- Bali (Village Ecotourism Network)

The meeting also discussed establishment of IETA (Indonesia Eco Tour Alliance), an association for ecotourism tour operator in Indonesia, which had been concept before at Bali meeting; and off course also enjoyed community based tourism product development in candirejo by stayed in their homestays and joined their regular tours, such as Village Market tour, Bicycle and Home Industry Tour, Menoreh Hill Trekking, and Dokar Tour to Borobudur.

Outputs from this meeting were CBT products and packages from the network, which were got from community based tourism principle, criteria and indicator in community based tourism product development and package in Indonesia that were appropriate to requirement of international market; agreement that no more need any modification on community based tourism principle, criteria and indicator, only need a little deepened; also agreement to establish an association of eco-tour in Indonesia) named IETA (Indonesia Eco Tour Alliance) and strengthening it with constantly within under INDECON wings.
