Recent Update of CREATED Program
Until February 2019, the project has provided training for more than 1.000 people (84 % are women of various age) both in technical skills for producing various community products; including in sewing, carpentry, cooking, natural dying, beading; tour guiding; english conversation; as well as financial and managerial skills. The training had improved capacity and creativity of local community to increase added value of the products. There are more than 30 variant products developed by local community members by the assistance of CREATED project.
The project had established more than 12 community based production groups, which ensure the production of these new-creative products. The group members are local farmers, teachers, or housewives; who are currently benefitting from additional income of the production. A farmer family in Mbeliling area with single earner would earn €55 /month. When one family member works once a week at banana chips production, he/she would earn an additional income in average €15-20 / month.
The production activities have increased demand for more than 250 jobs as well as created more than 200 new jobs for community members; benefitting population in 3 regions (estimated up to now around 11.000 people). Jobs in craft production related activities include yarns weaver, palmyra weaver, collectors for natural dye ingredients, tailor, accessories makers, bamboo craftmen, and product distributors. Jobs in agriculture production related activities included farmers (of banana, cashew nut, and taro) supplying the production, cooks, and product packaging. Jobs created in tourism activities included porters, cooks, guide, waiters and shop attendant at product outlet, and homestay owners. Local Small Medium Enterprises – CV. TANIPA – are specifically established to accelerate marketing and distribution of these products.
