NATURAL TOURISM
Natural tourism in Bukit Baka-Bukit Raya National Park is divided into
2 groups; they are inside and outside conservation area.
- Biodiversity of Flora and Fauna. The presence of flora and fauna
are interesting objects for visitors. One of the endangered species
here is the world largest flower (Rafflesia sp), which grows around
Bukit Raya (Raya Kalimantan).
There are many kinds of animal action that can be found easily such
as helmeted Hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil), Rhinocerous Hornbill (Bucheros
rhinoceros) and black hornbill (Bucheros malayanus). The most species
of primate that can be found easily is Gibbon (Hylobathes moloch).
- Landscape. The green view that lies as if without end shows the forest
with the scathed crown structure.
The river flow from the top of the hill comes from waterfall or river
rapid-produce the clear and attractive river flow in this area. This
view can be seen from outside. For visitors who like Photography, it
can be supposed their hobby.
- Nature Phenomenon. The attractive view can be the main interesting
object to visit this area. Bukit Raya as the highest mountain in Kalimantan
with height 2278 meters above sea level can leave an impress on visitors.
The hot spring in Bukit Rimban River that is located in Timbang Tabulus
Village is one of the interesting objects. The other nature phenomenon
here is waterfall and river rapid. These objects can be watched from
visitors lodge in Nanga Juoi.
- Cultural. Special characteristic of hinterland is people friend liness,
building architecture from Dayak and Melayu culture. These conditions
are interesting objects both for researching and tour.
SOCIAL ECONOMIC AND PEOPLE CULTURE
The native people who live around Bukit Baka-Bukit Raya National Park
are descent from Dayak Lembai thribe, Ransa, Kenyilu, Ot Danum, Malahui,
kahoi, and Kahayan. In spite of that Indonesia language have been understood
by people and have been used as medium of intruction in education and
general meeting. Generally, they live into limited group and disperse
along the small rivers that empty in to Melawi River in West Kalimantan
and Katingan River in Central Kalimantan.
Their livelihood are as follows : Shifting cultivation, gardening, breeding,
as well. The work that can be seen such as their furefathers statue that
made of iron wood, some handycrafts that made of Bamboo, Rattan, Pandan
leaves and traditional ceremony.
Traditionally, Dayak people live in Long House that also known as "Betang".
Village administration is under old tradition that order by traditional
functionary. The traditional law occurs in each villages arranges social
relationship such as marriage, separation, land used, Land clearing system
both in ex-unirrigated agricultural field and virgin forest, trees cutting
and forest yield used.
FASILITIES
The manager (Sub Unit of Natural Recources Conservation) has supplied
some facilities and infrastructures to facilitate management activity
and so support visitor activity, they are :
- Visitor Center that is located at Jl. DR.Wahidin Sudirohusodo, Sintang
functioned as a information center to visitors who will visit the National
Park.
- Guard Post, that is located in Belaban Ella, functioned as post for
some guards.
- Visitor Lodge in this area is functioned as acomodation for visitor.
There are some interesting objects for research activity and natural
tourism.
- Trail, that function as tourism and inspected trail.
